About the Author

Dr. William Kernodle was born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina, received hi B.S. degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and continues a long family tradition of medical doctors. His father and four uncles all graduated from Duke University Medical School.

Dr. Kernodle completed medical school at the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine, also located in Winston-Salem, and completed his psychiatric residency at the same institution in 1975. He then moved to Richmond, Virginia, and has been associated with Tucker Psychiatric Clinic ever since.

Dr. Kernodle has specialized in panic disorder for a number of years. He serves as the Medical Director of the Panic Disorder Program at Tucker Psychiatric Clinic in Richmond. He has been a Medical Advisor of ABIL (Agoraphobics Building Independent Lives), which has grown from a few Richmonders to thousands of people throughout the state of Virginia and beyond.

Dr. Kernodle, who is board-certified in psychiatry, is a member of the National Institute of Mental Heath's Panic Disorder Education Program. He is also a member of the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association as well as numerous other local, state and national medical and psychiatric organizations.
